A State Questions UBS Ties to Hedge Funds
UBS, Europe’s largest bank by assets, was accused yesterday by Massachusetts regulators of “dishonest and unethical” practices in dealings with hedge fund advisers.
The bank’s investment banking division in Stamford, Conn., gave hedge fund managers below-market rent, low-interest personal loans and other benefits to retain and increase business, according to a complaint from the office of William F. Galvin, the secretary of the commonwealth and its top securities regulator. Tanya Cornelia Dampier and her husband, Charles Ray Dampier, both former insurance agents in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., have been arrested for attempting to defraud at least 13 insurance (companies of more than $750,000, according to the California Department of Insurance.
